Delhi Rains

Life is strange, till tomorrow everyone in the city was asking for the rain from the god, but now after the rain has arrived some of us at least are not happy with so much rain. We are human being; we always find the reason of being unhappy in any situation no matter how good the occasion or situation is in the life.

India Gate
Early rain the city has brought two things, first it has just ended the heat and humidity and secondly it brings the joy on the face of so many people. I don’t know about summer and winter but rains always bring joy in the face of people. When you see around yourself, tree, plant or roads you can see everything just brighten up with the rain. Like it has just brought back there youth to them, people start enjoying their tea more and talks of getting better production this year also take place. That is the rain for people, it just takes them to new place, you just forget this is the same Delhi that few days ago was hot like hell. It could burn you in the afternoon, now a very cool breeze with a soft water fall happening across the city. In some part of city drainage system has just shattered and people are left to live with first water fall of the season.

I don’t how people can hate rain, but today once you are stuck in office or say in bus while returning from office, or you are stuck in home while going, you can is in traffic due to rain, we all ask why do rain come. But reality is we never see the brighter side or rain, the joy and the life it brings. It depend upon mood also and person but if you can hate rain then I don’t know what you will love.

That is what unexpected monsoon brings to the city, some are good and some are not so good. But one thing is there in Delhi monsoon has its own charm, it makes you feel the weather as like you are in some hill station, but the traffic make sure you remember where you are, this city never lose its charm and with each monsoon it seems to glow more and more. Parks get filled again; people plan to visit India gate and other old places which you visit in Delhi. You forget about mall and other shopping places, but monsoon touches you life and make it better.  For me monsoon has come early so let’s get started with our plan for some outdoor party.  I am son of farmer that is also a reason why I love rain because it brings life.

A day without phone

Can you imagine a day in your life when you don’t have any phone with you, a day without phone? It might sound weird but I think we all need just one day a week without a phone to just be away with all the unwanted conversation with people. A day where you don’t have to worry about facebook, whatsapp, we chat and other dozen chat application in your phone. A day when you can forget about people who don’t like you but still comment and like your status on facebook and pin you on your BBM at random time to just check about your plan. I think in today we all deserve break from this virtual world, but it need really a bid heart to do so.

Let me confess I tried this once, let me tell you what happened. First of all the people who have not called me in the ages have called me to check about me, then my family member got worried because my phone was switch off and top of it every 5 minute I was checking my pocket that I have lost my phone and then reminding myself, you have just put your phone in home. Well it has become a habit to carry a phone, even when you sleep last thing you do is to check your phone and first thing is again checking your phone. May be earlier it was said that dog is human best friend but now that place has been taken by phone. But one thing I like to say living without mobile phone was much simpler and much easier. You were harder to reach and you maintain that exclusivity but now any one can reach you anytime and also anywhere, even in your bathroom if you carry your phone there.

If you don’t carry your phone for one day with you, you will not face many problems in life. You can spend you free time with the person with whom you want rather than being disturbed by your friend. It also gives you time to talk to the person whom you want to know face to face rather than on chat or on phone. And also it eliminate the photo factor, it irritate me when I see people taking photo on same place dozen times without even changing anything. Without phone you are more like being naturally you rather behaving like someone else. For whole day you are not worried about anything, like even while writing this blog I received tops of whatsapp message from friends, I just realized how much out life is depended on phone. Our phone is like our identity which we could not part away with. Just phone is the way you will spend your life.

I hope someday in my life I could decrease my dependency on phone. I just want to totally undo my dependency on phone, I should be using the phone when I need rather that phone using us and getting all the information which all the people need. May be slowly we will learn to live life without phone, but that is still quite a time go in such a day.

Final telegram

Yesterday I was reading some tweets on twitter about how people were nostalgic about exit of telegram. BSNL has decided to shut down it telegram service, it is certainly long due in this technology advance day.  We might ask question who used this service for last 10 years or so with the emergence of mobile, landline and also Internet. The whole landscape has changed, now the importance of words is lost with the end of telegram. Personally I have never sent anyone any telegram to know how it is used or how good or bad it was, but yes I have few memories associated with the telegram which I could never forget. It was all of school days, I don’t know about today school time but in 2003 and 2004 when I was in 9th and 10th standard we had telegram writing in our English writing course. For me it was on the learning curve which we could never understand at that age.

The basic rule of telegram Writing which I remember (It might not be accurate one)

  • Every word and space is counted and you have to pay for even space also.
  • It has to be written in capital words
  • Instead of . (fullstop), you have to write STOP.

I was very fortunate to be good in writing section of English, because here you expression of words matter. You can’t memories it and just write it. Our English teacher Das mam, worked quite hard on us to make us better student. By that I mean she never forced anything as a teacher, she just let us be what we were and found space for our self. For me she was the teacher who changed the way I used to think about reading English subject.

Back to topic, with telegram writing I learned the importance of word and also how important is to communicate the thought in short format. You might not need enough word to express the feeling but you have to express the feeling in less word. That was the challenge for all of us in the school; we never thought what it would be like after 5 year when there might not be any need for it.

Well I remember one sher which I read often, “ Naya pane ki chahat pe Purana choot jata hai, Jo tumse milne aao to jamana rooth jata hai”. I don’t know if today school have telegram writing in the curriculum or not but I hope they have, telegram writing can’t be replaced by SMS writing that is for sure. :)
