To Forhat … With love

Few days back one of my Junior Mr. Forhat who was leaving India, included me in his thanks note. It was special for me because of the fact that he still remembers me even though I have left college way back. I came to know him when he was enrolled in the college; you can easily figure him out in the junior batch as he was from Iran. His looks were different and those days he used to talk less to anyone in the college.

I think our first interaction was during the fresher time. You and Ghassan was there asking me about something about college and MBA life. You both where little skeptical about how you both will be able to pull it off. Ghassan left the course and returned back but you stayed and completed the MBA. What made you different from other was the hunger to learn, I have met lots of people who ask me about how to do thing and what to do but nobody really mean that. I remember the first time you asked my help was for Accounts and even came to my Room for studying the accounts. You came and tried to learn that was the main part, hunger to learn and I think if you keep your hunger for learn alive you will go a long way in life.

I hope you reach new height of success of life and even come back to meet us. Some time you often wonder how life would have panned out if things where have been different, I hope you and Ghassan are still in touch. Just say my Hi to him also, and keep in touch.

Forath... Well I picked this one from ur facebook :)

P.S.: Some time you need to say a simple word to people “Thank you” for the contribution of their in your life. We often forget the simplest part of life and we try to do the harder one.

UPTU Realty....89% MBA seats vacant in UP B-schools

In yet another indication of the deteriorating standards of education in the state, nearly 89% of the total MBA (Master of Business Administration) seats in the state are left vacant. Be it the supply outstripping demand, lack of basic infrastructure or few placements, students who participated in the state entrance examination (SEE) counselling have in no way opted for the B-schools in the state.

Sample this: Out of 28,000 seats offered by 421 colleges, around 3,300 have been filled. And as far as Lucknow is concerned, the figures are shocking. The state capital has nearly 55 management colleges, 29 failed to get a single admission from SEE counselling. Single admission has taken place in another 13 colleges while in two colleges, two students each have taken admission. The figures show that there are nearly 45 colleges where the total admissions have not exceeded the five digit mark. Last year, only 4,373 students were enrolled in MBA as against 32,228 seats.

Only six colleges have shown some satisfactory results. Of these six, three are government institutes, while three are private colleges. In Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), a government college, all 60 seats for MBA have been filled up. Similarly, in Institute of Co-operative, Corporate Management, Research and Training, and Indira Gandhi Sahkari Prabandh Sansthan, only 10 and four seats are left vacant respectively. Besides, three private colleges where the situation is better includes BBD National Institute of Technology and Management (nine out of 102 seats vacant), BBD Northern India Institute of Technology and Management (50 out of 102 seats vacant) and Ramaswaroop College of Engineering and Management (46 out of 151 seats vacant).

The dipping figures are however, not new to the education officials. SEE 2012 coordinator, Prof VK Singh said, "Not more than 15% MBA students get placement after they finish the course. This is due to the lack of industries in the state. Also, the mushrooming of colleges with inadequate facilities is keeping students away."

In the past five years, the management colleges have increased by more than four times. While there is no check on quantity, the quality of education suffers badly. Seeing the drop in number of students in B-schools across the country, the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has also imposed a blanket ban on opening of new management colleges. Now, the colleges are only relying on management quota to fill some more seats.

It is not the destination but the journey that counts

What was MBA for me?

For me this is what an MBA is all about. We might use all the heavy MBA jargon as we plough through from one term to another, but the interaction with others as diverse as the colours of the rainbow and the learning they bring to our lives is really what the MBA programme is all about.

At the end of the day, the results do not matter, the outcome does not matter, what matters is the journey, what value did you bring to people’s lives and what value did they add to yours.

When we all join MBA we all dream of getting good job in the end of college life. We all work hard for that only one goal and it leave us totally drained within first semester in college life. While no body realize that journey is more important rather than thinking about destination. If you have a good journey than in the end you will reach your destination.

In my time MBA I knew that I am not as good student as there were others in the class. They all were better student, better committed towards program and also towards life. I learned lots from them, from soft skill to hard skill it was never in course. The journey I had with them was some of the best thing that happened to me in past few years. I met people from all kind of places but the thing that most interested me was how they think about their life and how they live it.

I was always a spoilt kid in my family because I was youngest but when I met people in MBA; I realize I had it so easy in life all the time. How people have struggled with time, fought with family, arranged money to get here. They all have a plan for life and how they want to go about things. I always interesting to meet self made people, they will tell you about the exp they have still they will not force you to accept it.

In my journey I found few good friends, few good memories and also in the end of a job where I learning a lot. Though some time I feel like choking with time, deadline but then that’s fun of doing job in STARTUP.

It is the journey that will make you realize what you really want from life. Some time your target might change after few years down the line but the exp. You will have from your journey; never lost it because that is the best learning any one can have in life.

The Economics of Commerce Students

….
As a commerce student I used to always hate being compared to Science student. I never understand why we all compared to a science student to judge as intelligence. Either in marks or anything but anyway that the way education system of India has been science student oriented.

As a commerce student you quite early realize that you are not made for those chemistry equations and illogical spelling in Biology (I was terrible on both of them). You don’t want to go to arts, so by luck or by chance you arrive in commerce. Here world is quite different everything is not fixed as in science but not imaginary as in arts. It is a mix of both to teach you about the perfect blend of both. After commerce you have mostly left with little option for the carrier like CA (way to much study needed) and MBA (You are Idiot if you think you can join IIM after commerce graduation). But mostly you will find most commerce not opting for CA they go for MBA or either they do their own business.

Now the battle starts with science student in graduation. All those wana be engineers and doctors fail in their field so they do what, join any good commerce course to save their career. I am not against it but there should be some protection for the commerce student as there is for science student.  They come and take one seat in a good college from commerce student away, and the student who has worked hard for 2 years to reach this place will  not be notice because in exam all the question where from math’s and quant’s. So it makes them to go for a secondary college.  And all wana be engg. And Doc takes their places. What a bright future this country has.

It never ends here, after B.com and BBA most of commerce student opt for either CA or MBA. Well for MBA you need to prepare for English, Quants and much more things. But who ask question of economics, finance or say business management. They we all realize it was all wrong studies we have done till now. In commerce we were all taught you can do anything but we realize we can’t beat engg. Students in quants because they are doing it for 4 years but can they beat us in economics or finance, my answer will be NO. At least give us the fair playing ground to compete with. Include these also part of it then see how things can be change for Commerce student.

Everybody see the rat race to get in the college but how we are getting in there and how unfair the system with some of the people. I don’t know but some time I think for commerce student it is unfair. Well at the end of day that is the way system is some time, unfair but most of time an old system in place.

P.S.: As a commerce student I always envy science student for only thing, they have a choice after 12 also to come in commerce but we don’t have choice to change.
