Remember the time in your life after 10^th, when you are confused about science, commerce and arts. You family want you to become doctor and your friends are going in commerce. But you don’t know is what you want do and what you really want to do. When I was in that time what I missed was counseling for not what I wanted to do after 10^th but where I can go after choosing that option.

Well everyone want to become doctor, engineer and CA in the school life, but do we realize at that time what our real interest in life, sometime we don’t. Our career option is limited to the fixed option we have always told about, but we never want to make our interest as our career. Take a example of me, If I could have pursue my interest I would have took literature rather than commerce but I could because I was not sure of my interest and also about how my career would be, what I would do after that, what my friend will say. I wish someone could have guided me at that time, apart from my family member who would have been unbiased in his/her opinion and told me what was right, rather than telling me what he has done and what I should do even though I don’t want to do it.

‘I once dreamed about…’

What I dreamed about once, I asked myself. Almost everything it replied to me. From being a teacher to from being a sports person, from being a farmer to being a actor. I dream of being everything in life which actually doesn’t happen. So right now I am sitting on my office desk on working Saturday, yes I know it sucks to work on Saturday but then also I am going to write about the things I dreamed about once.

Teacher: From class 1^st to class 4^th, I only wanted to be teacher. That was the best profession in my eyes at that time. You come in class at your own will and leave in 45 min., if you wish to teach you could or else you can say, ‘head down student I have some work’. You can scold anyone, give marks anyone you want and live the life as you wants. Whereas being student is boring thing, daily same dress, early morning bath, have to be on time to school and worst was HOMEWORK. Teachers has to give homework, where as student has to DO homework. But my life played tricks with me, as my family gives me something else to ponder upon which is given below.

Doctor: Being only son of family always makes you darling the eyes of everyone. But it gives you added tension as well if your elder sister is quite studious. After dropping my idea of being teacher, I picked up choice of being doctor because my elder sister wanted to be. I always wanted to beat her in marks, in everything we did. We were so competitive in life at that time. But chemistry subject betrayed me big time. I never was able to understand why there is chemical equation and how we can balance it. Why misbalance it first place if we have to balance it. This was not it in biology my spelling mistake was like big thing. One time my mom saw my answer sheet there was only red dot below every spelling because it was not correct. Finally in 9^th std. I gave up on dream of being doctor as well. Because rather than being a bad doctor I choose to be a good patient. My one friend consoled me, ‘if we all become doctor, then who will be patient. So we choose to be patient’.

CA: This was the actually one which I tried to become. I choose commerce after 10^th and I realized how few options are left to me. But then also I was happy with my choice, in the end I get rid of chemistry and biology.  CA was different kind of exp. For me, I worked hard for six month for its CPT exam. At that time I used to send 12 hours studying and rest of time in coaching and sleeping. In short means no life was left in me. And fortunately or unfortunately I failed in exam by 2 marks. That was really painful for few days; I could not eat, sleep and talk to people. I thought people are laughing at me, ‘look he can’t even clear CPT’. Those where dark days in my life, but somehow I realized look what I am doing in life. I had no life for last 6 month and if I took this forward I would end having no life for almost 5 to 7 years in minimum. Really I need that, no was the answer from my mind. I was that close to become but finally chose something else.

Coming back to today, these are few dreams of my life from my career point of view which I wanted to become. Some time I look back at my life and I think what would have been my life, if I have chosen any one of those career.

The Economics of Commerce Students

….

As a commerce student I used to always hate being compared to Science student. I never understand why we all compared to a science student to judge as intelligence. Either in marks or anything but anyway that the way education system of India has been science student oriented.

As a commerce student you quite early realize that you are not made for those chemistry equations and illogical spelling in Biology (I was terrible on both of them). You don’t want to go to arts, so by luck or by chance you arrive in commerce. Here world is quite different everything is not fixed as in science but not imaginary as in arts. It is a mix of both to teach you about the perfect blend of both. After commerce you have mostly left with little option for the carrier like CA (way to much study needed) and MBA (You are Idiot if you think you can join IIM after commerce graduation). But mostly you will find most commerce not opting for CA they go for MBA or either they do their own business.

Now the battle starts with science student in graduation. All those wana be engineers and doctors fail in their field so they do what, join any good commerce course to save their career. I am not against it but there should be some protection for the commerce student as there is for science student.  They come and take one seat in a good college from commerce student away, and the student who has worked hard for 2 years to reach this place will  not be notice because in exam all the question where from math’s and quant’s. So it makes them to go for a secondary college.  And all wana be engg. And Doc takes their places. What a bright future this country has.

It never ends here, after B.com and BBA most of commerce student opt for either CA or MBA. Well for MBA you need to prepare for English, Quants and much more things. But who ask question of economics, finance or say business management. They we all realize it was all wrong studies we have done till now. In commerce we were all taught you can do anything but we realize we can’t beat engg. Students in quants because they are doing it for 4 years but can they beat us in economics or finance, my answer will be NO. At least give us the fair playing ground to compete with. Include these also part of it then see how things can be change for Commerce student.

Everybody see the rat race to get in the college but how we are getting in there and how unfair the system with some of the people. I don’t know but some time I think for commerce student it is unfair. Well at the end of day that is the way system is some time, unfair but most of time an old system in place.

P.S.: As a commerce student I always envy science student for only thing, they have a choice after 12 also to come in commerce but we don’t have choice to change.
