Mentor....why we need them in college..

I have been thinking about lots of things to write about but as everybody know how much lazy I am, it just didn’t happen until it is odd hour to keep your mind in mood to write or I am reminded repeatedly to finish the pending work by my scheduler (usually my back logs are so much that even that can’t be scheduled).

I was just reading one of my blog and thought how my opinion has changed from last year. It usually gives you a better perspective of things once you are away from that situation.

I never believed in the thought that you need good teachers in the MBA in my opinion far from teacher you need more of a motivator and mentor in the MBA who can guide you rather than putting more focus on teaching. I have seen both type of mentor in my MBA life. In first year I never had a single interaction with my mentor at that time but in the second year I had a mentor whom we used to interact daily and tell our though and problems daily related to college, life and profession.  At that time I written about what I felt for my mentor and it evoked lot of response. Some thought it was emotional other thought it was buttering. I written what I thought at that time was right and somehow it was true. I read that blog thousand times but still it feels it misses something or other thing.

When I left the college, I had only good things to say about my mentor. And now my junior has the same thing to say about my mentor. It is not about one person or a group of student, but when one group, second group and even third group start praising your. You bound to have something special. And I think my mentor has that thing, something that made her special teacher and mentor.

Well I hope she continue to mentor of many batch to come, that’s why I always say sometime age is not a barrier in what you can be. Sometime I miss mentor in my life. But what we can do, we all have moved on in our life but she still mentor and nurture lots of lost and potential talent in the college.
You need those kinds of people in college who can guide the talents in right way.
Once I want to a teacher of marketing in last year about to consult one of my projects, He rejected it and said it was not possible. But few months back when I started this blog in my college, my mentor was the first to believe in my idea. I am still continuing it; I hope to do it always on my own. But the faith she shown on my idea at that time has given me faith to continue this.

P.S.: Sometime In life you need those teachers who belief in your idea and let you free to choose your own path. I don’t want to name her but everyone who will read this will know who I am referring to.

NOTHING DIES FASTER THAN A NEW IDEA IN A CLOSED MIND

In the History of mankind, whenever man has opened the shutters of his mind, healthy new ideas have breezed in. And he has vigorously steeped out of his narrow confines to discover continents and oceans, planets and galaxies.

But whenever man has shut out new ideas and gone into hibernation in the safety of old, rigid norms and human civilization has been shrouded by the gloom of dark ages. Now shake yourself out of your slumber. Step out of the den of stagnant thoughts, into the open field of bold new ideas. Soar high on the strength of an exploring mind to reach unknown heights of achievement & success.

Few people to thanks for this blog

As one post of my blog came on the first page of the Google search, I think it time to say proper thanks speech for making this blog readable.

So for this research i opened Google:
typed: Are sips in mutual funds beneficial in short term
And my blog was on first page of Google and i could not believed it. So i did same with Private session with same result and just took the screen shot so i could have the proof with me.

See yourself to believed me.:)

1. Deepak Rousa these days he writes in this blog more than me and more better than me. He made this blog more interesting with his Hindi poems and more so with his emotional note. We all loved your note. So please keep writing more regularly because we love it.I also forgot about this blog until one day I had a chat with him and he encouraged me to write again about our college life. This was why I started our series of college life note.

2. Raj Tripathi I know he don't write these day but he was the catalyst behind and Mastermind behind this blog and how it should work. though lately his is limited to reading only but i know with our his support in starting days i would not have been able to create this blog. We were disappointed when our blog didn't got the response as we would have thought to but still we change it so many times to survive. Now I know why my blog is there and what I am doing with it and all with help of this fellow.

3. Prerna Singh ma'am for believing in our idea and writing first post for our blog. I know as a mentor she have been supporting as but to believe in our this concept was the thing i can't forget. No body knew what we are doing but still she believed us, helped us and more so encouraged us do these type of things. I can only hope one day these type of activity will take over the books in IEC.

few other without whom this blog would have died years ago...

Nisheeth Khare for just being there and reading blog and making some valuable comments ,
Kshama Goel for her critical thoughts and ideas though me and raj never followed them but still idea is all we care for,
Jayant Singh for just being subject of my many articles about his life and his style ( u r truly rockstar material) but he loves me for being that after all i received party after writing each article on him.
and
Most impotantly to my sweet sister Nazia Shahid, who has been real inspiration to me. I don't know why she believe on me that I can do anything, We fight, we hate each other likes but still when we need each other she is there for me. thanks sis..:D

Hope our blog can make more journey like this. But you realize with each part that there are no dreams that are too big and each and small things make and path or success.
Meanwhile till next time this is saifi saying good bye to all of you.

The EQUATION of My College days And Its PARAMETERS..( DEDICATED TO PRERNA MA'AM)

Today I really want to thank someone whom I will always respect, remember and I do not have enough word to explain about my thought.

Not many of you will be able to guess the name. So, let me tell you I want to say special thanks from my side and from whole class and MBA department side to our one and only MENTOR PRERNA MA’AM….

In first year I didn’t had any direct interaction with ma’am. I just had known her as a one of the many faculties in my department. Our first interaction happened in second semester when she taught us subject named POM, as we famously called it. At that point we just started to interact with ma’am as a student.

POM was one of the most boring subject in MBA 2nd semester but still due to ma’am teaching way we were always attentive in class but not so in the subject. One thing I want to mention that there are teachers who always ask the question from few set of student but PRERNA ma’am used to still ask questions to the entire student in the class even if she knows that they will not answer it.

SCM and entrepreneurship subject provided me time to always get late in class in 2nd year. Ma’am also provided us the NOTES of the topics. But I don’t want to revel the attendance part just because its TOP SECRET.

Till this period she was only one of many faculties but you can always see why ma’am is different from others. In third semester she became mentor of our class. To be frank till that point I was not sure of mentor role and its need. But in the first interaction class only ma’am made sure she conveys her message to us about being mentor role and what she expects from us in future.

I never believed in the thought that you need good teachers in the MBA in my opinion far from teacher you need more of a motivator and mentor in the MBA who can guide you rather than putting more focus on teaching. She always encouraged us to do thing which we thought we will never be able to do. Either it be to participate in debate, quiz contest and helping us matter of studies. As a mentor she has always helped us. Ma’am took personal interest in our MBA BLOG concept and believed in it. She was first to give me her post on the blog which is still on my blog. Though it was not successful for which i wanted but it was good experience. I am still continuing blog with diff. name with help of my friend Deepak. Maybe one day more people will turn out to write and express. I cannot say about other but for me she proved to be the best mentor I had ever after school days. Ma’am pushed me to take part in national summer training competition when even I was not sure about it. I gone to the competition  and won the prize. I still fell it was the better achievement in college life. Now i realize it is not about pushing you to perform better but as a mentor she knows that we can do it even if we doubt ourselves.

I tell you it’s hard to say the entire good thing about GURUS but still I believe a good mentor can be a best thing a student can get. PRERNA MA’AM may not be the teacher in eyes of many students but I will always say she is the one of the finest teacher and mentor in MBA department. In our time at IEC we lost few good faculties but at least ma’am remained.

I can only say these lines in end of my note……..
A GRAND SALUTE TO THE “DRONACHARYA”, WHO’S DREAM NEVER TASTED THE REALITY OF TURNING US INTO “ARJUNA”, BUT STILL THEY HAVE “FAITH” IN US

Note: I written this note some what a year back but i not on my blog. It was time to make this a Grand entry in my blog.

Inter personal skills for conducive work environment

“I will pay more for the ability to deal with people than for any other ability under the sun.”

In business, most of the problems are people problems. When we solve our people’s problems, our business problems are substantially resolved. People knowledge, is more important than product knowledge. Successful people build pleasing and magnetic personalities, which is what makes them charismatic. This helps in getting friendly cooperation from others.

A pleasing personality is easy to recognize but hard to define. It is apparent in the way a person walks and talks, his tone of voice, the warmth in his behavior and expressions. You will never lose your attractiveness regardless of age when the path of your personality flows both from your face and your heart wearing a pleasant expression is more important than anything else you wear. It takes a lot more than a shoeshine and a manicure to give a person polish. Charming manner that disguise a poor character may work in the short run, but character reveals itself rather quickly. Relationship based on talent and personality alone, without character makes life miserable. Charisma without character is good looks without goodness. The bottom is that a lasting winning combination requires both character & charisma.

“When you are good to others, you are best to yourself”

Whether it is your thought, action or behavior, sooner or later they return and with great accuracy. Always try to treat people with respect because you will be meeting them on your way somewhere.

“ It is one of the most beautiful compensation of life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself”

Keep away from- ego selfishness, lack of courtesy, inconsiderate behavior, rude behavior, lack of integrity and honesty, self- centeredness, arrogance, closed mind, low values, greed. Probably that’s not all, but these factors prevent building and maintaining positive relationships.

“ We see the world not the way it is but the way we are”
Most of the time other people’s behavior is a reaction to our own. If our motives are good, we assume the motives of others are good too. If our intensions are bad we assume that the intensions of others are bad.

The main thing in relationship is trust. Relationship between employer and employee, parents and child, husband and wife, student and teacher, buyer and seller, customer and sales person are all trust relationships. Crises in trust really means crises in truth.

Relationships are like bank accounts, the more we deposit the larger they become, therefore, the more we can draw from them. However if you try to draw without depositing it leads to disappointment.

Be courteous to all, but intimate with a few and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. True relationship is a plant of slow growth and must undergo to with stand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to appellation.”

Mutual funds (SIPs): Best for long term

It is probably the simplest way of investing that your money counts in the long run. Mutual fund is a fund managed by an investment company with financial objective of generating higher rate of return. Systematic investment plan or SIP in mutual fund category is one of the disciplined ways of investing one's money in order to take advantage of the volatility and diversification in the market. In it, an investor invest a prespecified amount in a scheme at prespecified amount in a scheme at prespecfied interval at NAV( net asset value).Yet, SIP that have easily outperformed key indices in long run are not especially helpful if you don't invested your money for at least 2-3 years.

With the SIP facility one can invest even Rs 500 on a regular basis for chosen period .The small but regular investment used to buy MF unit over the year slowly grows into a big corpus, enabling one to meet long term goals. Simply, it works on average costing of yours money. For example an investor invest Rs 500 per month in HDFC TOP 200. Then he will get 2.5 unit of that MF. Per months units are accumulate over a time of period. Investor gain units according the per month NAV of that fund. When investor want to redeem his investment, he will get the amount which is equal to the multiplication of total accumulated unit and that particular months NAV in which he is going to redeem the investment. If we are investing for longer term then units more or less on increasing pattern and that give higher rate of return.

But like any other investment idea SIPs too have their pitfalls and wouldn't give you much if you invest for a shorter period of time, or close to the market peak. Taking SIPs for short term would not be hugely beneficial, especially in a rapidly rising market. For instance during October 2007 and march2008 in Indian market, Investor lost their money.

I hate numbers ....But I still want it...

That day proved to be the toughest day for me , when reports cards were distributed, with a remark that they have to be submitted along with parents sign the next day. Initiating from the unit test marks to arithematical equations , number were the one I hated most, the reason was that I never got them as other and myself would like to be.

I still remember I was one among the toppers from downside during my school days , and it felt a little relaxed also as no teacher ever asked a question to me as they were fully assured of not getting the answer for me, it was wastage of time to ask and that wastage was reflected in numbers when the marks were used to be announced.

"Jinhe hum bhulna chahe , wo aksar yaad aate hai"

And the same proved to me regarding numbers the more I wanted to go away from numbers the more they followed me in my life.

With the passage of time , the mind changed and I started studying, it felt nice to give answers as it cater the girls attraction in the class, teachers started to recognize me, expectations arose, exams arrived and more time invested in studies but results were the same, numbers were still far away from me. As the time came when the importance of numbers in life increases but mine was going the opposite lane. it was declining, what I scored was just opposite to my friends (75-57).The biggest tragedy was that I scored the same numbers at two important milestones of my life and yet my friends where asking for party for those number as well and you know what hurts more that after my passing they started grading system.

After graduation I decided to fulfill the dream of my parents (not mine)to pursue post graduation (CANNOT MENTION COURSE)from a PREMIER INSTITUTE.

The good luck still followed me before the results were out I was counted among one of the studious students, later on the scenario changed. That baba( T P) also cant help me who was known as jack of all subjects ranging from logs to economics all was in vain.

By the time I have realized that numbers really holds an important position in ones life as companies are coming for campus placements and I am below the eligibility criteria….

Still in search of numbers………

NEED OF THE CURRENT HOUR TO “PREVENT, PRESERVE AND PROTECT” OUR MOTHER EARTH……….

IN this present PHYSICAL AND MATERIALISTIC world, lot of voice has been raised for Physical pollution or techno- generated maladies such as: Energy and natural resource depletion, Environmental hazards, Global warming, formation of hole in Ozone layer, Deforestation, Soil degradation, Nuclear proliferation, Arms and ammunition blind race etc: all these are man made problems leads to threatening the base, which is essential for the survival of life on this plane

We all On an another side of this we are facing intellectual pollution as: a dangerously growing threats of terrorism, criminalization of so called politics- which has been generated by us specially for the hard core social service for the betterment of general public, unethical practices in our daily life, large scale corruptions, Fraudulent in economic transactions, breakdown of relationships, Depression and loneliness, Suicidal attempts, Murders of our own family members just for the sake of some amount of money etc

So IN MY OPINION, we all as the stake holders of this society should assemble on the common platform and have a deeper brain storming session on this gigantic problem and its root causes, and should come out with the solution for deterioration of physical and intellectual environment as a whole.
